A friend made me pay part of a bill to have a lock repaired in her home?

alicet222 asked:

I pet sit & live in her house while she travels & she pays me half ($25 a day) what the kennel charges her. Her dog was wetting on the floor sometimes so she told me to keep all the doors in the hall closed. I closed a bathroom door that I had never locked before by pulling it towards me from the outside. My fingers didn’t touch the lock on the other side. Later I found it had locked; the key didn’t open it & nothing I tried worked. I called her & she said to call a locksmith. Later she charged me 1/3 of his bill since she said the door had never locked on her before! I told her the guy said the lock had been installed upside down inside the handle & he repaired it. I feel she was punishing me by making me pay part of the bill when it wasn’t my fault in the first place. I wouldn’t have closed the door if she hadn’t told me to. She has millions of $ while I just manage to get by each month. Her lock is repaired & I’m resentful. She’s always been dominating & I’m always shy.

More questions & answers:

  1. Keys are on the inside of the lock (Yale) how can I get in?
  2. A friend of mine who was publically ridiculed in a Cafe by a bullying Owner?

  5. My car door lock wont open on the driver’s side, from the outside. How can I fix it myself?

If you want to keep the job, then just pay the money. You could try arguing your case with her. Tell her that you never would have shut the door, but she asked you to do it. Tell her that you did not lock it, and if the locksmith said that it was a malfunctioned lock…or it was installed unproperly…that the issue would have happened anyway, and you are not liable for it.
