Am I a good Poet?
Question by deahwest:
Here is some of my poetry:Read and judge for yourself.
Patti’s Epic
I
Patti’s Poem
Powerful wisdom, freely given and sought with great enthusiasm:
Determined and deticated friend
A new alliance is forming where understanding is the key: for some a locksmith is needed here.
Everyone around us is departing: as our friendship is just starting.
Teacher, confident, and friend who knew I’d find so much of what I needed in you, though I’m still intrigued as to why you keep me around.
Artist flow always just out of reach wouldn’t Picasso be proud.
Rush here, Rush there, slow down I’m near.
Holding out for the day’s CHAOS to end, though the chaos for you never ends.
Inclined to teach and one inclined to learn.
Receptive and respectful: rest now watchful warrior.
Caring and courageous are we two,the fellowship of the ring continues.
Earth and water HELP sustain each other.
Integrity shines in your eyes, blinding those who don’t have any of their own to share with the world.
Never worry about things because I’ll always have your back.
Animated leader: what will you do next; whatever IT is sure to keep us on our toes.
Even testing the waters when people want to jump in blindly.
Awesome timing never ceases to amaze.
And never forget you have a friend in me.
Never lose faith for you are strong.
Wisdom like yours comes along once in a lifetime and is so very precious to me.
Never lose yourself, since you are special to me.
Even weariest warriors must rest sometimes.
The winged-cat never stops and neither will this Eagle.
Stubborn wings flap feebly in winter’s winds.
Energized, mystical muse: Cinderella in your own right; your prince always just out of reach.
The Crab and the Seagoat are one.
Now I am done and you must go on but what else is new?
Lead on Seagoat, Lead on.
Even now your flights of fancy inspire this poet to new heights.
Laughter is your shield and Sarcasm your sword, be swift my friend.
Golden as the sun’s rays are the times I can make you smile.
I’ll go that extra mile when your down and out, just call my name and I’ll be there.
Align with the stars and know that the sky is the limit if you believe.
Nothing can stop us now: we are friend’s for life.
Lead on, Seagoat, Lead on.
Strength
Patti is an Oak tree.
She changes with the seasons.
Her branches shed their green fingers in the fall,
so new challenges can be dealt with. These are the reds
and yellows of Fall. Leaving her vulnerable to the elements.
Labor Day, hot dogs, the smell of other lumber burning maybe that
Pine down the street.December comes. The prestine white snow covers
all remaining life, depression may set in. Fire in her belly she sets to work on
many of Falls challenges. You gain some and lose some along the way,
but you are the key. Spring arrives. Her branches bud.New beauty
understanding emerges.Green life returns to her diease ridden trunk.
Warm summer sun.Family around her.
Her branches and leaves glisten
with every new rain shower.
thunderstorms may rattle her
onstitution, but she’ll never
totally uproot and run away.

Good poetry tells a story.. Just rhyming is not good poetry.. I believe the test for all good poems is, do they make sense.. I think yours is intelligent but maybe a little over blown.. looks to me like you could create two more poems from the same material with a story line written in meter with good paceing. Write it again and simplify and see if you don't like it better. A good writer knows when what they have written is good.. they don't have to ask others.. You can write.. good luck and keep it up.
