Can a car door & ignition be re-keyed?

Question by notarycat:

My set of keys and alarm remote were stolen. I'm currently using the spares. Can I re-key my car doors & ignition? Can a locksmith do this or should I call the dealer? I have a '99 Mazda 626.

More questions & answers:

If you have the money, they can do the job.

A car dealer as the lock of the door and the ignition piece will have to be changed.
