can locksmiths change new locks to work for an old key?

bored asked:

I need to buy a new ignition switch and a new lock on the glove compartment for a car…..

But when i get these replaced i dont want to carry around a seperate key just to turn on the car…

so my question is…
can a locksmith or someone else change the key settings of the new locks to match my original car key?…..

the car is a 1994, so it doesnt have those micro chip keys…..

Yes a good locksmith can re-key a simple pin and tumbler lock as long as they can take it apart.

Yes.
Any reputable locksmith can do the job.

Yes they can but it would probably be cheaper to change all the locks to match.
