Question by mlopez2618:
I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment a couple of weeks ago and had to call a locksmith. (my landlord is orthodox jewish and this happend on the sabbath) So the locksmith tried to pick the lock and wasn't able to, and needed to change the whole lock. I have now a new key. Am I in trouble with my landlord?

You should not be in trouble with the landlord if you provide a copy of the key and an explanation of your situation to your landlord.
give him a copy of the key.
Your landlord would have to be pretty unreasonable to not have an understanding of the situation. But on a side note …
If the locksmith could not unlock a simple house lock then either he needs to get a new job or more likely he just wanted to charge you for new locks. So be weary of bad businessmen.
provide your landlord a copy of key(s). It's require in your lease.
Make copies of the key and get them to the landlors right away. Explain what happened, and once you give them a copy of the key, you should be fine. Things happen, and you had to take care of the problem yourself, most likley they will understand, and having a new key means that they still have the access if they need it. Good Luck!
