HELP! Key broken in Yale-type pin-tumbler lock?

Question by Millertron:

I’ve just come home and put my key into my front door lock – a Yale pin tumbler lock. Turned the key, opened the door, pulled the key and only half of it is there… Any way I can get the segment of the key out without hiring in a locksmith?

if u can see the key u can try a pair of needle nose plairs and if not call a locksmith, or just change the lock

Take the doorknb off. Take all of the hardware off, at the back is a small hole, using a 1/16″ drill bit or paper clip push the key out. You may have to turn the lock a few times back and forth to make sure that the key is square in the hole and lined up properly to come out. But that is the way to remove a broken key from a residential lock.
