How can I get a spare set of keys for my bike lock?

futurparfait asked:

I have a TopLock brand, U-shaped bike lock but I’ve gone and lost the keys for it. I’ve had it for several years so I don’t remember where I bought it, and searching the internet hasn’t yielded any answers. Would a locksmith be able to make me a new key, or am I better off just buying a new lock? It just seems like such a waste if all I need are the keys.

Sad to say, but you’re probably better off buying a new lock. If the keys were only cut on one side, you could ask a locksmith to see if they can pattern it….not likely, though. Some shops can pattern a cylinder key also (the coke machine type). What they charge you for it might be more than the cost of a new lock, though.

If you lost the keys it is not worth it to pay a lock smith, you will need to buy a new lock. I would recommend a Kryptonite and this time, put the extra key in a safe place!!
