How can I replace my mailbox lock when I don’t have the key and I never see the mail carrier to get it opened?

Question by RoseBud:

I just moved into a new house and I can’t find the mailbox key. I called the post office and they said I am responsible for replacing the lock. Is it possible to break or drill the lock out as some have told me to do? Or should I just shell out a 100 for a locksmith?

Ask the previous owners for the key – they should have given it to you and probably just forgot. Contact your realtor for help in locating them.

tape a note to the postman. ask him to leave it unlocked for you.

You can’t. It’s the PO’s job. You will pay for it. That’s why it’s your responsibility. Call tham and they will do it. $15.00
