How do I drill open lock that I don’t have a key for?

dlc3007 asked:

We have a lock that we’ve never had a key for. We’re planning on replacing it, so I don’t mind destroying it. I was trying to get it open without calling a locksmith.
I forgot to mention that it is a deadbolt lock. No screws available.

More questions & answers:

  1. Where do you find a cheap lock that I dont have to fix lock on door?
  2. how to open door with skeletin key lock without key?
  3. How to drill a UPVC euro lock that is jammed in the locked position can I drill it out??

drill right where the key used to go – or you can sometimes beat the lock off the hasp with a hammer and nail bar

Although i have never tried it i think it will work…
Take a freezing spray (i think it is used by athletes when they have an injury…), freeze the lock and then take a torch and heat it.
Hopefully it will break

Is there, are there, any screws attaching the lok at the exterior of the lock?

A carbide drill bit directly into the key slot. The issue is to remove the lock mechanism, where the key went to allow access to the mechanism that actually is the lock. You don’t state if it’s a door lock, chest, padlock, etc.

Why drill the lock?

A good key maker can open the door for you and even MAKE a new key!

Before I would ruin the lock, search the yellow pages and look for a Key&Lock and give them a try first.

I wish you well…

If it’s a padlock, use bolt cutters and cut the thing off.

If it’s a lock on a doorknob, you can remove the entire knob/lock by removing the 2 screws that attach it to the door, provided you can get to that side of the door.

Hiring a locksmith is expensive, but they can open doors.

If its on a closed door, remove the hinge pins and one side or the other will have a removable cover to expose the screws that hold the thing together (usually two). then the deadbolt itself has two more on the edge for removing the
rest of the unit.

Hope this helps.

there really is no way to break a lock-locks are made to be unbreakable-call a locksmith

We often use a large master key. “A pair of bolt cutters”
