How do I pick my bedroom knob lock?

greasydame asked:

I locked myself out of my room and my window is locked. I have a key lock on my knob. I tried using a flat bobby pin and hair pin but nothing happens when I turn it or jiggle it. I also tried prying my door open by sticking a knife in between the door frame and door. All that did was chip away some of the paint and wood from the frame. I can't use a credit card because the door frame is covering that park or the door. My door swings into my room and the hinges are inside as well. What else could I use to open my door. I don't want to destroy my frame or door so please don't tell me to knock it in. How much would a locksmith in California charge to open my door? Please someone who knows about this stuff please resond.
Frijol, I tried hammering straight on to the key hole but the knob didn't budge. Maybe I'm supposed to hammer from the side?
I took a picture of my knob.. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e86/greasydame/Picture001.jpg
And of the "tools" i've been using. Some are all twisted from trying to turn them in the hole. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e86/greasydame/Picture002.jpg

You can break the handle off with a hammer strike and push it into the room. Anew lock is 20 bucks, a smith is a C-note easy.

If your knob has a small hole in the center, stick a small pin or stiff wire in and push hard. That should pop the knob open If your knob requires turning a thumb-turn on the inside instead of pushing a button, you will have to put a jewelers screw driver in the hole and turn it. Good luck

In Picture 1 The arrow is pointed at what is called the door stop molding. Use the butter knife to pry this piece of wood off enough to slide the knife in behind it and will allow you to depress the bolt/latch. You may need to remove this molding completely to accomplish this. OR Call a locksmith.
Good Luck!!
