buy a shop manual at the auto parts store
read that…
that help any btw..
Pick up a manual it will tell you where to drill on the cylinder housing to remove it. but really I would recomend just buying a new cylinder housing and ignition lock cylinder because it took me several tries when i did mine, and wound up buying a new one.
Remove the clam shell from around the column. then take off the steering wheel and the assembly for the turn signals and wipers. on the under side of the column are two bolts. remove those put the key in the ignition and turn it so the wheel lock disengages. then slide the hole metal piece off the column. also if you cant get the lock to disengage once you have the bolts out you can spread that out so the clamp so you can still get if off.
One thing that you haven’t told us wether or not the ignition key is different from the door key. Originally, when the vehicle was built, the door locks and ignition use only one key.
If you had only one key for the vehicle, then remove the door lock, which is very easy. Remove the screw holding the door handle in place at the inner edge of the door. Remove the trim piece in the centre of the door handle, remove the screw holding the handle to the door and pull towards the rear of the vehicle and you should be able to remove the handle/lock assembly from the car. Take the handle assembly with the lock to a locksmith and have them impression a key for you. Normally, the charge is somewhere between 15- 30 for the first key, then the normal charge for cutting a key from the first key…
If you had a seperate key for the ignition and one for the doors, then you’ll have remove the ignition lock assembly. The link to the VWvortex site that someone has given you is correct.
Hope this helps, a car nut.
