How do you break a padlock?

Lucky guy asked:

I have lost my key to a paddlock on my garage and have to get in, I don’t want to wreak the door or call a locksmith, is there an easier way to get it opened? I’ve heard of some kind of acid or dry ice to freeze it.

Get a metal cutter thing. I don’t know what you call it. It looks like a big wrench

you will need bolt cutter

If you don’t have a bolt cutter, place a heavy duty screwdriver blade between the lock and the loop, so it’s on top of the lock part. Hit the screwdriver blade hard and fast with a hammer. Pops right open every time.

You watch too much TV. You can hit downward on a masterlock with a hammer a few wacks and it will open…and still work too. Go figure. Otherwise, a boltcutter should do the job nicely.
