How do you fix a broken lock on a car trunk?

bioethicsdoc asked:

Hey car experts….need help….

The trunk to my 96 Mazada Protege LX will not close…latch is broken. Is this fixable. If so, how? Is this something I can do myself, take to the dealer, or a regular locksmith? What kind a money are we looking at?

The dealer can do it. Your locksmith can do it. If you’re just a little bit handy, you can figure it out. Lock kits are really cheap. Good luck!

Junkyard parts. A few $$$. Keep your lock cylinder so the old key will work. A careful visual inspection should show you how to proceed.

You can purchase a replacement lock at the auto parts store for about $10.
