You can pay up to £100 labour but you want to spend a bit extra on a Lock that can’t be ‘bumped’ – especially if this is additional security.

be a lot cheaper to buy a lock and fit it yourself. or get a chain .

To fit a mortice lock he’ll charge about £60 + cost of the lock. So that could be up to £100 for a reasonably secure job.

To fit a “rim lock”, that is a self-locking Yale type and staple, it may cost about £75.

A locksmith will always charge you more for the lock itself than the same thing at B&Q but if you’re not confident to choose or fit one then you’re better off paying him.

Even if you’re in a “resonably secure” development it’s still a good idea to get the most secure quality BS standard lock that you can afford (could be £30 for a 5-lever Chubb). The extra few quid will give much peace of mind.

It’s not too difficult to fit a lock yourself if you’re confident with a 1″ wood drill and screwdriver.

£60-120 but really the job is only worth £60 plus the cost of the lock. As it is an additional lock I assume you want to fit a mortise 5 lever deadlock. It is worth checking your insurance policy to see if a deadlock is a requirement of the policy. Also if you contact them they will advise you of the type of lock they prefer they may also have an approved list of carpenters/locksmiths that they use possibly on a fixed price. Of course I am assuming you have a wooden door. If you have a UPVC door then it will already have a 5 point locking system at least and no other internal lock can be fitted.
