How much does it cost to have a locksmith get a key for your car?
Question by Rach B:
The dealership couldnt make it because someone who had the car before changed the locks.
Would it make a difference if I still have the thing where you press the buttons to unlock and lock. it has numbers on the back would that help. because i only lost the key not the button thing.

If you're at the locksmith shop, the locksmith can impression a new key for you for about $20.
If you're out on the road, add the cost of a road call – usually $40 or $60 more.
When I lost my keys entirely, I had to have a locksmith come out and they pull the lock off and design a new key from the inside of the lock itself. The procedure put me back about $150 at the time. I would imagine this is pretty standard because, let's face it, they can charge whatever the hell they want because you need your keys.
Please call a handfull of locksmiths you will get some high and some better.Remember get the best price you can sence it will be for the same work.
it is about $65.00
