how much for a 99 mustang replacement key?
Question by alexm:
I bought a used 99 mustang that only came with one key and i went to a locksmith to make a copy, but they said they couldnt because it is an electronic key and only the dealer could make copies. the ford dealer said a new key would be around 200 bucks, so i just kept the one key. now i lost the original key and have no way of getting into or using my car which is locked in my driveway…how much is it gonna cost now to get the whole thing rekeyed? and do i have to break into it and then get it towed to a dealer?

1 guy recently posted the Ford dealer wanted $115 for a replacement key.
Thank God I love my old 91 F-150 as much as I due
That blows hot air sounds like you really have only 1 choice buy that key the key is electronic cause the ignition switch other wise it just be a house key nope the Vin number on the car tells the dealer whats the key needs to look like an hills an valleys you don’t want to re do the locks on the car it would cost more than $200.00
$200 for one key..My god….
A new key with one original (using a scan tool to program the other) normally is $89.95 unless you have a special key such as the remote/pats key found on some newer vehicles
But now, for two keys it will cost the cost of towing plus roughly $60 in keys and about $85 to program (to erase all lost keys so they can’t start the car)… with two keys , you can make a third for the cost of the key itself by yourself (instructions in the owners manual)
Sometimes you can cheat and just add a new key.. but basically same tow bill, the $89.95 cost and the other key if lost somewheres and they figure out it’s for your car can steal the car
But since it’s a 1999, the Ford dealer has the key code on file and can cut a non PAts (open the door only) key for about $5.00 with proof of ownership
Look around, some shops can get them for cheap from Ford dealerships and they pass the discount on to you. I purchased one for 50 dollars.
