How much would it cost to have a locksmith come to open a safety security box at bank?

Question by Sarah C:

Any guesses as to how much it’d cost to have a locksmith come and open the safety security box at a bank? My parents lost the key and the bank doesn’t have a spare key to the security box, it has my birth certificate and social security card in it. :-\
Could someone give a ballpark estimate rather than ‘expensive’?

I have served as a Notary Public when the bank had boxes drilled that were abandoned. I imagine they will charge you an hourly fee. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on how good the tech is.

The banks have a set fee. Ususally several hundred dollars. They won’t let you just bring someone in and do it. They arrange it.

The bank will hire a locksmith and charge you. It’s usually expensive, though.

A REAL Locksmith can and will be allowed to do a bank box. They have to have their license and insurance in order to do anything like that. We have done these and charge 150. The bank will charge you for the replacement of the lock.

Total approximately 200-250.
