How should I handle the Doorway Scroll situation?
IC core? Give it a coat!!! asked:
This happened to me twice now: I was installing a deadbolt for a customer, (I am an ALOA certified Locksmith) and while chiseling out for the strikeplate one of those little scroll things, (I think they are for Jewish customs) vibrated from the molding and fell on the floor. The first time I just tacked it back up to the doorframe, but the most recent time, it happened in view of a customer, and she started freaking out. I offered to rehang it, however, she refused, saying that it can’t be used again after it touches the floor.

I’m not looking to offend anyone, I’m only wondering what those things are used for, and if one falls again, is there a proper method I could use to put it back up, without causing hard feelings with my customers?
Thank you in advance.
PS. I Have Jewish friends, but feel funny asking them.

Offer to contact their Rabbi and have it re-blessed as soon as possible
Unbelievable….THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO. The man of the house recommended that I ask (in the future) that the homeowner remove it for fear it may fall. Even if they feel they shouldn’t remove it, it will not be your mistake.
Honestly it is there fault for not taking care of it, that woman should not have been upset with you, if she was so concerned she should have said something to you or should have had it removed until the job was done.
