How to fix a door lock that is jammed shut?

My balcony door won’t open – the lock turns and it sounds like it should be unlocked but it won’t budge.
How can I fix it? (Aside from calling out a locksmith)

well to get your doors open you can take a hammer and screwdriver to tap out the hinge pins by getting the screwdriver just under the head of the pin and tapping it upwards, after removing them the door or doors can be carefully removed. then you can inspect the lock for malfunctioning parts or it may just need tighting,, might also want to check the screws holding the hinges on for tightness. good liuck

Can you reach the screw that holds the lock together on the inside? You can remove them and there should be a little tab on the knob that you push in to release the knob from the shaft. Once that is done, you should be able to remove both door knobs and then you can get to the latch and pull it in.

Now you should be albe to get the door open, with the door open find the problem of why its stuck. Is it the door swollen, or a problem with the lock? Find where the door is stck and use a plane to shave the door to free it up and then paint it to keep moisture out of the door is the problem, it its the lock then replace it or find the fault and fix.
