How to get an old trunk open?

I have an old Steamer Trunk and have lost the key! I took it to a locksmith and he could not get it open! I don’t want to mess up the lock, so drilling it open wouldn’t be a good idea!! Any Suggestions would be helpful!!

can you unscrew the hinges,if not hope that some burglar is on the site for you bet they can help
Try a different locksmith, the one you went to must not have know much. Those are simple locks. You might also try antique stores, look for a trunk like yours and see if they have the key. They also sell old keys. It has to be a skeleton key of some kind.
My suggestion would be to try another locksmith.
Try another locksmith, or see if there is an antique dealer or someone that deals in restoring antique items in your area. Try a bobby pin or a screwdriver in the lock to see if you pop it that way.
