I lost the only keys I had to my 96′ saab 900s. How much can I expect to pay and what do I do?

heatherrose9 asked:

I lost the only key I had to my 1996 Saab 900s. Can I have a duplicate made by Saab and mailed to me? If so, how much should I expect to pay? I want a ballpark figure so that I’ll know if some of the local Locksmith companies are trying to rip me off or if they’re even able to make it. I get the feeling that all they do is act like a middle man between myself and Saab and just add some padding to the price. I’d really appreciate anyone’s input! Thanks!

You will probably have to apply for duplicate keys via a Saab main dealer, who will need to take details of the car (like VIN Number, Engine Number, etc) from the car themselves, with you there. They will also need to see proof of your ownership of the vehicle. This means that you will have to get the vehicle transported to the dealer yourself. They will then get duplicates sent out from Sweden, which they can mail to you, but would prefer you to pick up personally – stuff gets lost in the post ! The duplicate keys will take a few weeks to come through, and you are looking at between £100 – £150 each key.

I am a Locksmith and we don’t rip no one. Saab’s are a pain. The key is a s32ys and uses a laser cut on a special machine that is very expensive about 8000 USD.

The best thing is to go to a Stealership, I have seen them charge anywhere from50-150 depending on where you live.
