I lost the only keys to my 96′ Saab 900s! How much should I expect to pay?
heatherrose9 asked:
I lost the only key I had to my 1996 Saab 900s. Can I have a duplicate made by Saab and mailed to me? If so, how much should I expect to pay? I want a ballpark figure so that I’ll know if some of the local Locksmith companies are trying to rip me off or if they’re even able to make it. I get the feeling that all they do is act like a middle man between myself and Saab and just add some padding to the price. I’d really appreciate anyone’s input! Thanks!

The problem isn’t obtaining a key but programming the new key. Since you need the old key to perform a program, the new key is useless. You will now have to purchase a new alarm module (900.00) plus the labor to install and program it.
This module is called a TWICE unit. It is responsible for the anti-theft feature in your Saab.
I don’t know if the key for the 96 900 has a chip in it, hopefully no!! I lost the key for my 2001 9-3 and that cost be close to $200.00 to replace. I had to do it at the Saab dealer, they had to reset something in the car.

First, let me clarify about TWICE. You only need to change the TWICE if 3 keys have been programmed already. If you have had 2 keys programmed then you can have another key programmed with changing the TWICE> However, the key has to be cut according to a Key Code for your car. The key code can be obtained through your SAAB dealer, who will get it for you from SAAB. If your car is with the remote function for key less entry than the key needs to be programmed, if it is with a normal key function where you insert the key to open the door than with the key code you can have the key cut with the a Key code cutter. COst is between 150 to 200$.
First of all, a 96 900 does not have a twice unit. It has an alarm processor under the drivers seat.If the vehicle was locked with the remote the module has to be replaced. If it was locked with the key, then you need just a key. There is no transponder in the key.All in one keys did not come around till 1999.
