If I lose my only set of car keys, (10 points!)?
Question by Joyyy:
I lost my only set of car keys, to a car I’ve only had for about 2 weeks. =(
I bought it through a car auction however, so I didn’t buy it directly from the Jeep Grand Cherokee dealer.
How can I get a new set of keys?
Do I call the local dealership anyway?
Or should I call a locksmith?
Or can AAA help me?
sorry, but this is the most inconvenient thing ever.

have a locksmith come and fit the lock with a special tool and u can get another 1 through the locksmith
a dealer can cut you a new key but need 2 types of info that show you own the vehicle or they won’t do it. also a new key may have to have the security system relearned
take vin # and registration to a Jeep/Chrysler dealer and they can make a key for you
You can go into a Jeep dealership and give them your VIN # and they can look up your key code and make you a new key for a few bucks. You can do this for any type vehicle.
It shouldn’t matter if you bought it through auction of through a Diamler Chrysler dealer. They either will or won’t have a key made for it. Some vehicles only had so many keys made for them and therefore you could order them all ( possibly expensive) and try them until you find the right one if that were to be the case for the Jeep Cherokee.Try the dealership first cause it’s free and then call the locksmith. Only had this happen once with a Ford Aerostar van that we lost the second key for and then we lost the first set. Drilled out the key switch and started it with a screwdriver until we got rid of that piece of crap. They said that they couldn’t help us when we asked them. Not bad service or nothing just didn’t know what to do. If their locked in your vehicle just call a locksmith. When you get new keys be sure to get lots of them. They cost a few bucks to get them copied and can save you from going through this agian.
Going to the dealer is more expensive than a REAL Locksmith. The best and fastest way is to call a Locksmith and we charge anywhere from 49.95 for regular non transponder keys to 125 for the transponder keys.
This includes 2 keys and the trip to where the Jeep is at.
It takes about an hour to do the job on site.
