ignition locked?

APRIL C asked:

I lost my keys to a 1997 ford expedition. I called a locksmith because I have a transponder key. They tried 26 different keys and none worked. I got my original key back and now it won’t turn the ignition. No locksmith is available tonight. My truck may be towed by morning. Can anyone help?

Turn the steering wheel left or right a little as you turn the key. Sometimes it is too tight because of the wheel position and works in conjunction with the key tumblers.

does you cardo you have to step on the brake to start it? if you do it might be the nuetral safety switch. also i believe your key has a chip in it and if it does you have to take it back to the dealer to have reloaded

Pats key equipped ford vehicles have over 1 million transponder combinations. your original key should work after letting the car set for approx 10 minutes. If your ignition key doesn’t turn the key cylinder something is either jammed inside the cylinder or its not the original key. With the key in the ignition try taping on the end of the key (not to hard to break the key) with a light hammer will trying to turn the key. its worked for me in the past.
