Is a locksmith necessary for a new home lock change?
Question by Getsbetterwithtime:
Was recommended a locksmith company to change doorlocks on a new home I'm buying. Is that really necessary? What can a locksmith do that I can't? The price is $109 for a 2 cylinder change +2 keys. Seems like a good deal, but worth it?

he can re-key your locks so you don't have to install new ones

Seems pricey to me If they are just re-keying your locks and using the existing doorknobs/hardware.
I replace my own locks, average price for the knobs/hardware with keys is $14-20 in the hardware store.

If your handy with a screwdriver and perhaps a wood chisel, just buy yourself a completely new door handle, knob, lock set, whatever you wish to call it.
Just be sure you can do the job quickly. Entrance doors are not something that should be left to be finished tomorrow.
