“Key Code Information?”?
Question by Anne:
Hi everyone!!!
There’s a major problem- our Ford Explorer key is lost! (And we don’t have a replacement on site!) I’m at home, trying to find a solution.
We considered hotwiring, but thought it to be too risky.
We then called a local locksmith to see if he could mold a new key to fit the car (otherwise I’ll have to drive 2.5 hours to the site of the Explorer to bring a new key tomorrow morning).
The locksmith needed a manufacturer’s code to make a new key mold… we tried calling the manufacturer but couldn’t get in touch.
Is there some way to access this code– such as the owner’s manual (which is very doubtful)?
Thanks!

best case scenario is to call the local dealer with your VIN# and see what they can do.
Most have a chip in the key , without the right key , IE hot wiring it will not work , I think your in for a drive or waiting till Monday morning , sorry
You’d have to call a Ford dealer with the VIN number and proof of ownership to get the original key code or cuts and possibly the chip code if it has one. Ask the locksmith if he can make a bump key for it and get it to start with that if there’s no chip in the key.
