locksmith scratched my new car?

The lock pickers bible!

Question by eirama21:

I have a 2007 Civic(1 month old).I just moved into my apartment that day&was buying major groceries.I accidentally locked my keys in trunk. So, I called a professional. He told me he was insured. After a while of him trying to unlock the vehicle, I suggested getting the extra key in my apartment(apt key also in purse, locked in trunk).I later find out he just didn't want to go to this particular apartment complex since his ex lived there!By the time he gets the car unlocked, I am looking at scratches on the interior of the driver door. They were minor, however, it is my brand new car!He said they would come out, and got upset&in a rush to leave when he saw I was unhappy. The door handle has the most scratches, and the vinyl is less noticeable. He took off $5& just told me to call insurance the next day.He was upset&said this is why he's thinking of getting out of the business.Do you think I should let it go?I felt bad, but I guess we were both having a bad day. This has been irritating me…
Incident occurred Wednesday (26th). I called the phone# he had given me the next day. The lady was unpolite& told me I'd have to take it up with my insurance carrier. I reminded her that the locksmith said he was insured. She said that the office was closed and to call the next day when that guy/others were there. It was later in the evening, but she was still rude.I put it off since I was trying to let it go, but it's been annoying me. It's now 5 days later…I think they habe gotten away with it.The guy made me feel bad for trying to get credit for the scratches.I guess let it go, and hopefully, better luck next time?It just annoys me, but I guess it's just one of those things. What do you think?
I did call my insurance carrier.I just recently up-ed my deductible from $100 to $500/month. The scratches aren't worth $500.

Follow up on it, go to a body shop and see what it will cost to fix the scratches, and bill the lock smith. His insurance should cover your losses, of course he will have to pay any deductible.

There is no excuse for scratches, minor or not. And why was he doing anything with the door handle to scratch it? That is NOT the way to unlock the car, it has electric locks, doesn't it?

look the matter of fact is the you call him to help you get your keys out but instead he did more damage to your car. so if you tell your insurance. they might not do something or charge you more to fix this but if i were you I'll call his company and sue him because having your ex on the same place of my apartment shouldn't cause you to ruin my new car. so if you have his business car, call him and tell him that your insurance want to talk to him and he'll probably coming running back to fix the problem. if you car paint doesn't look scratch up than let it go if it is than don't let him go.
