Lost car keys.will i be refunded?
Question by vikramkone:
Hi.
We recently rented a Toyotal corolla 2007 model car for rent from Avis and went to a beach. unfortunately the car keys got washed away and so we lost them. We called up a lock smith and he made a duplicate key which works for opening the car door and also driving the car.
My question is…since i have a full insurance from Avis, will i be reimbursed the locksmith’s charge (325$
) .
also he did make only the manual key and the remote to auto lock and open the doors which is common these days is also lost. He obvioiously cant make it…so what shud i do now.
do u guys have any idea how much rental agency will fine for Lost keys with remote..
any help wud be appreciated

No-it’s your fault and you are responsible for the cost of the key…and a new remote. Why would you even think that Avis would pay for this? You did it. The “insurance” is just a collision damage waiver, not “oops” insurance.
No, you will not be refunded the money. Instead of spending $325 dollars, you should have called them. They would have sent out a tow truck and a new vehicle or a spare for that car, and not charged you anything, it wouldnt have cost them anything really either. So, since you did not contact them before you took action, they will not refund you the money. Sorry!
toyota corollas have too many wheels to be a motorcycle
just buy the it
no thea will not but if you call them you would not be charged for the keys
Call Avis with your question. Why go to Y/A?
