You have to go to the dealer and get a temporary one. Think about it, anyone could get a key if you didn't show up with proof of who you are and ownership of the car. No mobile units. Just call first and then go there.
Make your own spare key. Get a blank key, a plastic blank and stick it in and out of the ignition quite a few times. Then bring it to a lock smith and have him work it.. and file down the markings. I did this before and it worked.
don't know why a locksmith won't touch it —not like it's a Mercedes or something.
but the dealer should help. yes, just be prepared to show a lot of proof that you own it. or keep trying the locksmith or mobile unit found in your phone bk.
try another locksmith then dealership
You need to find a locksmith that wants to make money and do the job right. ANY lock smith can make a key from vin, we have several here in albuquerque that do maybe the one you went to sucks. they are no different than any other import key. And they dont need to be programmed…
AS scared as you are to go to the dealership, don't be. When your vehicle was manufactured, the pinsets of your key cylinders are recorded in a 'key code'. This code stays with the VIN. When the dealership pulls up vehilce history, this code is on the report. Since the vehilce is not equipped with a Passive Anti-Theft System, The key will not cost that much, and a key program is not necessacary. I would even say this would be cheaper than a locksmith.
