Medeco deadbolt lock – is loose – what tool can tighten it ?

Question by yepwellmaybe:

I have a Medeco deadbolt lock on my front door – it keeps getting loose. There is a small hole at the base of the lock which appears to take an allen key but none of my allen keys fit it, even those that look the right size. I have called a locksmith twice to tighten it and he says it requires a special tool which Medeco control and therefore I can’t buy. Does anybody know what tool I could use to tighten it ?

More questions & answers:

  1. How I can unlock the bedroom without calling the locksmith and destroy the lock?
  2. can I change a deadbolt lock without buying a whole new one?
  3. Can Locksmiths remove a broken key out of a lock? is there a tool that does that?
  4. HELP! Key broken in Yale-type pin-tumbler lock?

I hope somebody tells where you can get that tool for cheap. But if they don’t, then pls consider buying another deadbolt. They’re not that expensive…probably less than the bill from your locksmith and his 2 visits!!!! Look at Lowes or Home Depot. I changed my doorknobs and deadbolts when I moved in my place and it wasn’t expensive or difficult.

Bonus(1): I can do my own repairs/adjustments because it’s all standard hardware.
Bonus(2): no surprises from the last guy who lived here who maybe kinda sorta kept one key.

Pls consider it. I think that’s messed up that you’re getting jerked around by this hardware issue…good luck.

Chances are if you have medeco your in an apartment or condo situation or something simular. If so you should be talking to someone in your maintenance dept. to address your problem.
