If you are at all handy with a screwdriver you can go to the local hardware outlet and purchase acomplete set of locks and replace them yourself for less than the cost of a locksmith. although the new keys & locks wont match any other s in your house you will have different keys for the new locks Its true that if you have the locksmith change the locks he would charge you more than re keying because of his markup on selling you the new locks vs just the labor and new keys

I was able to go to Lowe's and buy two new deadbolts and two new locking door handles AND have them all keyed to fit the same key for less than it would have cost me to have a locksmith come out and re-key one deadbolt. If you're a do-it-yourself-er, I'd try that before throwing away a lot of money on a locksmith.

Lowes can rekey it if you take it in & it is a brand that they sell. As for a lock smith, you can change every lock in your house cheaper then calling a locksmith.

Take the lock out yourself and take to a locksmith to rekey. Will save you a lot more money this way and easy to do.

After a recent newstory about how easily the common deadbolt can be overcome, I'd hire a locksmith to come in and redo the lock with the best possible lock on the market. Apparently those hardware store models are quite easily overcome. This may be where hiring an expert may be money well spent.
