The house we bought had old, crappy locks. It was on our list of things to do. Never got around to it. Well, the lock finally broke on the front door, none of the keys will unlock it. So, I left it unlocked as I left for work this morning. Hubby, came back home behind me and locked the door….great. I was able to unlock the bottom lock on one of the doors but the deadbolt is locked (we never had this key, don't use this door, which is why its locked). I called all around town looking for a locksmith and apparently there is a locksmith convention which they are all attending. Does anyone know how I could get into my home without breaking windows? We have a good sized storm moving in and would like to avoid having a broken window right now. Thanks in advance.
Thank you all so much for your help (except Ryan T., thanks, I'm not an idiot. His key did not work either, but I already stated that I tried all the keys). I'm off to try a few things.

A relative has given me a filling cabnet with a small safe built inside. The safe has been left open but if shut can't be re-opened without the combination.

There seems to be a panel I can unscrew to get access to the inside workings of the lock but I don't have a clue about how to reset it to a new combination?

Any good books that can walk me through the process, or will I have to go to a locksmith?

I have a Rover 414 i. I've a brand new battery, I've a brand new key fob (installed and checked by locksmith). But I can't get the car to start…it seems immobilised. And the fob seems to be ignoring any presses of the button.
Before I bought the battery I called the RAC, and was advised it was a battery problem.

yesterday evening, whilst baby sitting my friends baby at my house, i broke a wine glass in the kitchen.
i asked my fiance to put the dogs in the storage room/ their bedroom and i will take care of the baby if he helps me tidy the glass up.
after everything was cleared up we realiesed that the key had broken off and now the dogs were locked in the storage room. we called directory assisstance and they connected us through to a lock smith. we gave him our address etc. he said he'd be there in an hour or so.
then my dog got more and more distressed and so i called directory service again and asked them to connect my through again.
by this time the baby was cranky and crying and my dog howling in distress. i spoke to the locksmith and he asked for my address again so i gave it to him.
within half an hour a locksmith was at the door and finally helped us to get our dog out. we left the flat to drop off the baby at our friend's house.

so then in the car i get a call saying the locksmith is here and if i could let him in. i was very confused and said his collegue or some one else had come already. i told him i was terribly sorry but there must have been some misunderstanding as i don't know which number i called as i was connected to the number via directory service.
he went absolutely nuts at me. swearing and cursing and telling him i was taking him for a fool. i tried to stay very calm and said once again i am sorry for causing and inconvinince. then he said he would make a police report if i didn't pay him for petrol and the money he would have made from the job. which would be maybe $100. which i don't think i should pay. maybe his petrol fee if anything. but now he wants to take me to court etc.
does he really have a case? a bit nervous.

I just purchased an old 60 year old house. I want to get the cylinders rekeyed or change them out completely. But I want to keep the original door hardware. Can this be done by a locksmith or Lowes? The doors have a lot of character with the original door knobs. I don't want to lose that.

They claim that there is no evidence that the car was broken into, I went to see the car and the steering column was apart and I don't understand why they're having a forensic locksmith look at it. They took an hour long recorded statement from me like I am a criminal. I've cooperated and they even asked for a copy of my phone records! I can't believe that I have been a customer for years with them and now they suspect me of doing this to myself.
