Please can anyone help, starting problems with Rover 414 i?

Question by mandy y:

I have a Rover 414 i. I’ve a brand new battery, I’ve a brand new key fob (installed and checked by locksmith). But I can’t get the car to start…it seems immobilised. And the fob seems to be ignoring any presses of the button.
Before I bought the battery I called the RAC, and was advised it was a battery problem.
Any ideas???…Thank you

Have you had the fob coded into the car. Its a specialists job that will only take a few mins. Ring your local garage and they maybe able to tell you where to get it done.

its the fob at fault.. put new battery in the fob and try unlocking and locking the car… if it does,nt work .. disconnect the cars main battery for 5 minutes then reconnect and try the fob again…… if this fails you may have an override code which you can enter using the door lock. its a four digit code and the instruction are written in the handbook.. if not its a main agent job.. some garages still sort out rovers

if you need to programme the fob – unlock the car using the key, hold the fob close to the car, press the fob padlock or dimped button 4 times or more in quick succession that should reprogramme the fob, if this doesn’t work some fobs when replaced can only be done using diagnostic equipment

good luck

Theres two possible ways around this keeping pressing the remote buttons alternately until the light on the dash goes out, or remove the interior panel from the drivers door and un-plug the switch from the back of the door lock, that will disable the system and allow you to drive the car.

Like a computor, the fob isnt being recognised ,but its a quick easy job for a person with the equipment.Maybe the rac will oblige
