Sentry Key?
Hi,
I have recently purchased 2004 Dodge Caravan SXT that only came with ONE sentry key. (Lock, Unlock, Panic) and I would like to get a second key. Also, I dont have the original pin code that was givin to the original owner for that key. I’d ask the dealer for it, but i’m sure he would just say ” Don’t worry about the pin code! just come on down, we will be glad to make you a second key.” Is there a way I can get a second key without paying their high prices for it? Maybe a local locksmith? Internet? Thanks
Well, what i’m worried about is the cost for this key from a dealer. Maybe i’m wrong, but i’ve heard they cost about $180.00 to get an extra one. Is this true?

the sentry key and the key fob are two seperate things. either way its a trip to a dealer, because either the key or the fob has to be programmed to the vehicle. the 4 digit pin for the skim has to come from chrsyler corp and can only be used with a scanner. if you had 2 keys or 2 fobs, you could program new ones yourslef.
no. there is no secret and cheap way to do it. go to the dealership and get it done. then be careful where you put the spare…we have one cust that has lost 5 so far!!! and yes i did read you only recieved 1…
and just an FYI, my dealership is cheaper than the local locksmith and you get OE parts, not aftermarket, plus a 12/12 warranty…
sorry matt, i guess i have seen too many aftermarket keys quit working in a few months. and you’re dead on. you dont HAVE to have it done at a dealership, by all means take it anywhere you want. take it to ace hardware and let them cut a non-chipped key that wont start the vehicle at all.
if you re-read my post you would have seen the part about how we are cheaper than the local locksmith…
sorry i tried to give advice…
You dont have to go to a dealer any locksmith can do the same thing. The pin code isnt a big deal the same with getting key codes by vin everyone thinks a dealer the only way and its just not true.
Pretty bad when i go to a dealer and have to pickup a blank with no transponder or nothing and they want to charge 15.00 for a key. The same key wholesale by the box runs about 30 cents a key. I shouldnt say the same because no they dont have the factory logo and the fancy plastic head.
And do you really need a factory warranty on a key…. come on it either works or it dont.
the price is probably right, as far as i know the dealer is the only one who can program your key to your car. you can get a key that will only unlock the doors for a small fee (its a regular key) but the car will not run off of that, and you dont want to lock up the module by trying keys that dont work, call your dealer they may be willing to pay for it themselves, or sell it to you at the dealer rate which they will sometimes do if you just bought the car from that dealer and that price is for the integrated key fob, if its just a silver key will probably cost$60.00
