Setting a door lock to zero bit?

Question by m_k_cool_guy:

Ok, thanks in advance.

Beginning to do some property inspections, and I find myself in a situation that I’ve never encountered before.

I have been instructed to keep a door lock (Qwik-set or some other cheap brand) in my vehicle should I need to change it out on the property. However, they are saying to make sure of the following:

“Be prepared with a drill, cheap lock set coded to zero bit and blank key”

It states to have a locksmith change it to zero bit and provide a blank key. Is there a way to do this myself without having the added cost of a locksmith providing one? ALSO, is the blank key different than the one that comes with the lock set?

Again thanks in advance.

Matt

Yes the blank key would be different then the one that comes with the set. Also re-coding a lock isn’t that expensive…due to bad roommates I had to do it, it only ran like 4$ for the re-code and some two new keys that matched the new code.
