Transponder key cut?

I just bought a blank key transponder and can I get it cut at any random place? like Home Depot or Canadian Tire?

Or does it have to be cut properly by a certain place? Like a locksmith, dealership etc..?

Cutting the key can be done anywhere, programming the transponder will have to be done at the dealership unless you are lucky enough to have a car that you can do it on yourself, not too many out there.

I believe if you have a Ford and you have at least two?maybe one? other key(s) you can do it yourself. As far as I know though Chrysler and GM are at the dealer or any mechanic who has the proper computer equipment to do it.
