We have a Schlage deadbolt that is “balky”. Removal, cleaning, silicone have not worked. How to free up?

The Schlage deadbolt is very hard to lock. I’m a little leary of having a locksmith work with it, since they would then have a key to the house, although I’m not sure if this should be a concern.

Can the whole Schlage deadbolt assembly be replaced, and might this solve the problem?
How do you find a trustworthy locksmith?

hmmm – Did you check to see if the deadbolt is lining up with the door receiver thingy (the female part) -It could be that the whole door is out of plumb.

We had a problem with a defective door lock. We contacted Schlage via their web site, returned it to them and they exchanged it, no problem, on a lock that was a few years old. They seemed to stand behind their products pretty well. Good luck.
Walk in to any home depot or lowes with your lock set with a factory key blank and exchange it for a new one they all have a lifetime warranty. and never use silicone or wd-40 in a door lock only powdered grafite the silicone will make the pins inside the cylinder stick….i have re-keyed thousands of them and as far as a lock msmith having your keys a lock smith dosn’t need keys to get in thats why they are lock smiths
