Who would I go to to fix the door lock on my car?

Question by BlueFive:

The lock on my drivers side car door is broken (I bought the car used and the lock was badly damaged). The door locks, but it can’t be unlocked from the outside. On the passenger side, the lock is a bit rusty (but it locks/unlocks from the outside). I tried to call a locksmith, but they said that they don’t deal with car locks and couldn’t give me an estimate. Does anyone know who fixes these kinds of things (and perhaps an estimate)?

More questions & answers:

  1. My car door lock wont open on the driver’s side, from the outside. How can I fix it myself?
  2. Where do you find a cheap lock that I dont have to fix lock on door?
  3. Need Key Made From Existing Lock On Front Door?
  4. Whats a normal cost for a locksmith to open your door and replace your lock?
  5. My Ex used to be a locksmith. How can I keep him from entering my house?

Find a reputable body shop in your area… That is a repair that they can easily handle.

save the money and climb in through the windows.

try just going to a dealer, like GM of Ford or whatever your car is..
they will help you..

If it’s an older car, it’s not worth paying that much to fix it. Just leave it unlocked with nothing of value inside.

If it’s a fairly new car, the dealer can fix it, but you’ll pay $500 or so.

ask people you know for a reputable repair shop. any shop can do it. it’s a minor repair. depending on what kind of car it is I’m not sure how much it will cost.
